YOUR fingerprints will soon reveal your dirty little habits. Forensics researchers in the UK have devised a way to tell whether you smoke from the chemicals you leave behind in your prints. The technique involves dusting the prints with a solution of gold nanoparticles, attached to which are antibodies that bind to cotinine – a metabolite of nicotine. Then the print is doused in a fluorescent dye that binds to the antibodies.
